Educated at local schools in Drogheda and Trim and at Trinity College, Dublin. Graduated with a primary degree in Fine Arts and a postgraduate degree in Law

Admitted solicitor for Ireland in 1973 and England & Wales in 1992

Special Lecturer & Examiner in Statutory Land Law to the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland 1974 to 1986

Appointed member of the Judiciary of Ireland 2005 and retired in 2016

At present – appointed by the Irish Minister for Justice to hold an Enquiry under s.42 of An Gárda Síochana (Irish Police Force) Act 2005

Governor National Library of Ireland 2005 to 2010

Chairman and member of Statutory Committee to advise Chief Herald of Ireland 2005 to 2015

Former member of Council of the Royal Dublin Society and sometime Chairman of Membership Affairs Committee of the Society as well as sometime Chairman of the Royal Dublin Society Library
