Master 2020 - Susan Douthwaite

Sue grew up in a military family, spending a considerable part of her childhood in Europe.

After studying Business Studies at Loughborough, her first post was with the Factor of the Garscube Estates in Scotland. Moving south, she began a career in the financial world of banking, Lloyds brokerage and Accountancy.

After a short break in the USA where she researched the financial industry, she returned to work in the voluntary sector, concentrating on medical research and mental health. During this time she undertook a Master’s degree in Fundrasing, Marketing and PR Management, which lead in 2003 to her becoming a part-time lecturer at Cass Business School. She also established her own consultancy providing governance and management advice for small and medium size charities – “practicing what she preached”!

Since retiring, Sue enjoys the theatre, gardening, racing, crafts and travel particularly to the USA.

Before retiring, Sue was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Member of the Institute of Fundraising. Until 2009 she was a Trustee of the Oregon Historical Society and currently is a Trustee of Independence at Home and the Loriners’ Charitable Trust.
